W.Va. Law Enforcement Officers Memorial set for May 3

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia will honor its fallen law enforcement officers during a Tuesday, May 3, 2016 ceremony at the Culture Center on the State Capitol campus.

The event, open to the public and media, will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall. As part of the ceremony, a procession including a multi-agency honor guard will lay a wreath at the state law enforcement Fallen Partner Memorial on the Culture Center plaza.

The West Virginia Wives Behind the Badge Program has organized the ceremony along with the Law Enforcement Professional Standards (LEPS) Program of the Division of Justice and Community Services, which is part of the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.

A representative of Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will speak at the event, as will Military Affairs and Public Safety Secretary Joseph Thornton. Prayers will be led by Cpl. Jim Mitchell, chaplain of the W.Va. State Police. Retired Capt. Chuck Sadler, LEPS coordinator, will preside over the ceremony.
