Update on Sunday rally at W.Va. Capitol

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Sunday’s Black Lives Matter rally on the West Virginia State Capitol grounds proved peaceful and concluded without incident, the W.Va. Capitol Police announced.

An estimated 400 people turned out for the evening event, organized by the group Call to Action for Racial Equality. Organization representatives had met with Capitol Police and other state officials ahead of time to obtain the necessary permit and to ensure a trouble-free rally.

Substantial assistance from the West Virginia State Police, Charleston Police and Fire Departments and the West Virginia Intelligence Fusion Center was were instrumental in providing for a safe evening, said Director Kevin Foreman of the W.Va. Division of Protective Services (also known as the Capitol Police).

“We work very well with these public safety partners, and these kinds of collaborations serve to make that relationship more successful going forward,” Director Foreman said.
