Governor to Hold "Salute to Veterans" Event

On Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 11 a.m.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin invites all Veterans of every branch of the military to join him and other distinguished guests for a “Salute to Veterans” on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Culture Center.

“I invite all citizens of our great state to join me as we set aside this time to honor the nation’s last ‘Doughboy’ paying tribute to the late Frank Woodruff Buckles,” Gov. Tomblin said. “Through their unwavering patriotism and commitment to duty, our Veterans have provided us the protection to enjoy liberty and freedom. For their sacrifice and service we want to take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation and give them our full attention to help address their needs. I hope Veterans from all military conflicts and years of service join us as we salute them and as I sign a piece of legislation that will establish the West Virginia Department of Veterans’ Assistance.”

The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Culture Center. Invited guests include: West Virginia Adjutant General James A. Hoyer; Hershel “Woody” Williams, the last living West Virginia Medal of Honor recipient; students from Capital and Saint Albans High Schools as well as Horace Mann Middle School; and other special guests.

Light refreshment will be served immediately following the program in the Great Hall.
