Kanawha Boulevard along W.Va. Capitol Complex to close for May 5 event

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Capitol Police are advising the public that Kanawha Boulevard between Greenbrier Street and California Avenue will be closed on Thursday, May 5, from 6 a.m. until at least 2 p.m.

All lanes of Kanawha Boulevard will be shut down at that location, which is along the W.Va. Capitol Complex, for an event scheduled for the Capitol’s South Plaza. The Rev. Franklin Graham is holding a noon prayer rally as part of the “Decision America Tour.”

 The event is expected to draw thousands of participants. Piedmont Road, which runs north of the Capitol Complex campus, will serve as a detour route while this section of Kanawha Boulevard is closed.

Also known as the Division of Protective Services, the Capitol Police provide for the safety and security of those who work, visit and do business at the West Virginia State Capitol Complex and other state government facilities. It is part of the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.
